ISLAMABAD: There is anticipation that Chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Management Committee Zaka Ashraf will receive an extension until the conclusion of the 2023 World Cup.

According to Geo, Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar has received a summary from the Ministry of Inter-Provincial Coordination (IPC) regarding the extension of Ashraf’s term as the head of the PCB, which is set to expire on the following Saturday.

The final decision regarding whether to replace or extend Ashraf as PCB chairman will be made after the conclusion of the ongoing mega-event, with the final match scheduled for November 19, as per insider sources.

It’s worth noting that Zaka Ashraf assumed the role of PCB chairman earlier this year, succeeding Najam Sethi in July.

The reports indicate that the development arises amidst allegations of misconduct and unconstitutional decisions being leveled against the current PCB chairman by a member of his own management committee as his term nears its end. Zulfiqar Malik, a committee member, has raised these concerns in an email addressed to Ashraf and the management committee, according to ESPN.

Meanwhile, former cricket star Shahid Afridi is rumored to be in line for a “significant role” within the PCB following his meeting with the prime minister, as reported by The News on Thursday.

The PCB, along with Ashraf, has faced a series of controversies, including the resignation of the former chief selector Inzamam ul Haq and the leaking of private chats between Green Shirts’ captain Babar Azam and a senior PCB official.
