PCB to award contracts to 11 more women cricketers

LAHORE: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has announced the awarding of domestic contracts to 11 additional women cricketers, bringing the total number of contracted players to 80. This move underscores the PCB’s commitment to nurturing young talent and promoting the growth of women’s cricket in the country.

Among the newly contracted players are standouts from the recently concluded Women’s Under-19 T20 tournament in Meredke. Additionally, one player from the Emerging category was included, recognizing her exceptional abilities showcased in domestic cricket.

PCB Management Committee Chairman Zaka Ashraf expressed his satisfaction with the initiative, stating that the contracts represent the PCB’s dedication to advancing women’s cricket. He further emphasized that this is just the beginning of a series of positive developments for the sport, and the management committee remains fully committed to its future.

The contracts, awarded for a period of eight months (November 2023 – June 2024), mark a significant step towards empowering young female athletes and ensuring their professional development. The recipients, including Aqsi Yousuf, Arisha Ansari, Humira Ghulam Hussain, Kainat Iman, Maimoona Khalid, Mubeen Ahmed, Muqadis Bukhari, Maskan Abid, Saba Sher, Samia Afsar, and Shamir Rajput (Emerging category), are poised to contribute significantly to the future of women’s cricket in Pakistan. – INP
