SC verdict: PTI loses its bat symbol

Supreme court decision today

ISLAMABAD: On Saturday, the Supreme Court annulled the Peshawar High Court (PHC) order that reinstated the ‘bat’ symbol as PTI’s electoral symbol for the upcoming general election scheduled for February 8, 2024.

The decision is a major blow out for PTI as it will not be able to use its iconic bat symbol in upcoming elections.

Chief Justice Qazi Faiz Isa, while delivering the verdict, stated that the comprehensive decision would be published on the official website. He noted that the Election Commission had received numerous complaints related to PTI’s intra-party elections.

Earlier today SC at 07:30pm reserved its decision on the Election Commission of Pakistan’s (ECP) plea challenging the reinstatement of the PTI’s electoral symbol, the ‘bat.’

A three-judge bench, comprising Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Qazi Faez Isa and Justices Muhammad Ali Mazhar and Musarrat Hilali heard the case.
