LAHORE: Caretaker Punjab Chief minister Mohsin Naqvi on Thursday announced four-day election holidays in educational institutions in Punjab, including schools, colleges and universities across the province.

All private and public schools, colleges, and universities in Punjab will be closed from February 6 to February 9 for the general election scheduled to take place on February 8, 2024.

“Important Update: In view of the upcoming general elections on 8th February, Provincial Cabinet has approved that all public and private sector schools, colleges, and universities in Punjab will be closed from Feb 6th to Feb 9th. 9:30 am timing for schools will only be observed till 3rd February. Regular school timings will be observed later on,” wrote CM Punjab Mohsin Naqvi on his Twitter account.

A public holiday has already been declared for Kashmir Day on February 5, and the election holidays from February 6 to 9 mean that schools, colleges, and universities in Punjab will reopen on February 12 after a week-long holiday.

It means that schools and colleges and universities will virtually remain closed for one week in Punjab including, Lahore, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala and Sialkot from February 5 to February 11.

Naqvi further stated that the adjusted school timings, starting at 09:30 am due to harsh weather conditions in Punjab, will continue to be in effect until February 3.

A notification regarding the election holiday in Punjab starting February 6, will be issued by Punjab government soon.
