IESCO recovers Rs474.63 mn in ongoing anti-power theft campaign

ISLAMABAD: Islamabad Electric Supply Company (IESCO) has made a significant recovery of Rs474.63 million from 28,866 customers during an ongoing campaign initiated on September 1, as reported by Dawn.com.

As per an official statement, IESCO conducted comprehensive operations against electricity theft and defaulters across all regions, encompassing Islamabad, Rawalpindi City, Rawalpindi Cantt, Attock, Chakwal, and Jhelum Region.

As per the media reports, Dr Mohammad Amjad Khan, Chief Executive of IESCO, underscored the importance of ensuring the collection of electricity dues from defaulters, stressing that the use of electricity without paying the bill is not permissible. He made these remarks during a review meeting on the campaign’s performance, focusing on recovery and anti-power theft efforts.

Dr Khan noted that the ongoing campaign has yielded positive outcomes in combating electricity theft within the IESCO region.

The media reports indicate that data reveals that IESCO’s recovery teams successfully collected Rs220.72 million from 20,167 active defaulters and Rs253.91 million from 8,699 inactive defaulters, resulting in a total recovery of Rs474.63 million from 28,866 customers.

In addition, IESCO detection teams identified electricity theft totaling Rs3.24 million units and imposed fines of Rs150.27 million on 2,358 individuals involved in electricity theft. Law enforcement agencies registered 453 First Information Reports (FIRs) and apprehended 366 individuals responsible for electricity theft.

Meanwhile, Dr Khan urged consumers to actively participate in the campaign by reporting instances of power theft through the helpline number 118.
