Former GB CM Khalid Khurshid narrowly escapes deadly attack

GILGIT: Khalid Khurshid Khan, the former chief minister of Gilgit-Baltistan and the current president of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) G-B chapter, narrowly escaped a deadly attack while on an electoral campaign on Monday.

According to sources, the incident occurred near Chogam in Astore, where Khurshid’s convoy was obstructed and subsequently fired upon.

Fortunately, Khan remained unharmed while his one associate got minor injuries in the assault. The motives behind the attack remain unclear, but investigations are under way.

Khan was en route to participate in an electoral campaign alongside fellow party members when the assailants attempted to halt the convoy, leading to the gunfire.

PTI announces to challenge Khalid Khurshid’s disqualification

Meanwhile, the PTI has vehemently condemned the attack on Khurshid, demanding the perpetrators’ immediate arrest and stringent accountability.

A PTI spokesperson stated should any harm befall any of our leaders, including Khurshid, the government will be held directly responsible.”

This incident has further heightened concerns about the deteriorating security situation in Gilgit-Baltistan, the spokesperson said.

The spokesperson said that the incident had cast a shadow over the electoral process in the region, with many fearing further violence in the poll run-up.
