KARACHI: Chairman of the Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP), Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, has taken a significant step in preparation for the forthcoming general election scheduled for January next year.

On Saturday, Bilawal Bhutto announced the formation of provincial parliamentary boards for the PPP.

These parliamentary boards have been established separately for each of the four provinces within the country and will play a crucial role in determining the candidates representing the People’s Party in the general election.

Each provincial parliamentary board will make recommendations for potential candidates to Bilawal Bhutto, who will make the final decisions regarding party tickets.

The PPP parliamentary board for Central Punjab will consist of prominent figures such as Raja Pervaiz Ashraf, Qamar Zaman Kaira, Chaudhry Manzoor, Hassan Murtaza, Rana Farooq Saeed, Faisal Saleh Hayat, and other key members.

ECP issues 88-point code of conduct for ahead of elections

This development follows the announcement made by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Thursday, confirming that the general elections are set to take place in the final week of January 2024. The ECP has also revealed its schedule for the delimitation of constituencies, with the initial list expected to be published on September 27. The final delimitation list is slated for publication on November 30.

Political parties had been vigorously urging the electoral body to announce the election date, and this official announcement comes in response to those demands.

Furthermore, the ECP recently disclosed its plans to hold a meeting with political parties next month to discuss the code of conduct for the upcoming general elections. A draft of the code of conduct has been provided to political party leaders in advance, facilitating their feedback and effective participation in the consultation process.
