Sunni Ulema Council leader Allama Masood-ur-Rehman Usmani shot dead

ISLAMABAD: Allama Masood-ur-Rehman Usmani, the Central Deputy Secretary General of Sunni Ulema Council of Pakistan, was shot dead by unknown assailants in Islamabad on Friday.

According to Sunni Ulema Council spokesperson, Mohammad Yasir Ghasemi, Usmani was attacked by motorcyclists in Ghori Town, a suburb of the capital city.

He was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. No group has claimed responsibility for the killing so far.

Usmani was a prominent religious scholar and a vocal supporter of the Pakistan Movement.

He was also a member of the Council of Islamic Ideology, a constitutional body that advises the government on Islamic matters. He is survived by his wife and four children.
