Lahore Qalandars clinch first victory of PSL 9

RAWALPINDI: In the ninth edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL), Lahore Qalandars secured their first win of the season by defeating Islamabad United by 17 runs.

Chasing a target of 163 runs, Islamabad United was bowled out for 145 runs. This was Lahore Qalandars’ first victory in the tournament.

Prior to this win, Lahore Qalandars had already been eliminated from the playoff contention.

In the match played at Pindi Stadium, Islamabad United’s captain Shadab Khan won the toss and invited Lahore Qalandars to bat first.

Lahore Qalandars’ Innings

Lahore Qalandars set a total of 162 runs for the loss of 7 wickets in the allotted 20 overs. Fakhar Zaman scored 10 runs, while David Wiese remained unbeaten at 24 runs. Notable contributions came from Van der Dussen with 64 runs and Shaheen Afridi with 30 runs.

Islamabad United’s Innings

In pursuit of Lahore Qalandars’ 163 runs, Islamabad United’s team was all out for 145 runs in the 19th over.

Azam Khan with 29 runs and Naseem Shah with 27 runs were the standout performers. Alex Hales was dismissed for a duck, while Shadab Khan and Jordan could only manage 7 runs each. Agha Salman and Imad Wasim scored 4 runs each, and Hanain Shah added 3 runs.

From Lahore Qalandars, Zaman Khan sent 4 players back to the pavilion, and Shaheen Shah Afridi took 2 wickets.

Points Table

On the points table, Multan Sultans lead with 12 points, while Quetta, Peshawar, and Islamabad are tied with 9 points each, occupying the second, third, and fourth positions, respectively.

Karachi is in fifth place with 6 points, and Lahore Qalandars are at the bottom with 3 points.

It’s worth noting that earlier on Wednesday, Karachi Kings had easily defeated Quetta Gladiators by 7 wickets, which resulted in Lahore Qalandars being knocked out of the playoffs. Multan Sultans had already qualified for the playoffs.
