Fake receipts case: Imran, Bushra interim bail extended till Jan 16

ISLAMABAD: The Session Court has decided to extend the interim bail of former PTI chairman Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi until January 16 in the fake reciept case.

This decision came during a hearing on Tuesday, presided over by Judge Ahmed Arshad, who was filling in for Judge Tahir Abbas Sipra, currently on leave.

During the hearing, the duty judge expressed concern about the absence of the prosecution lawyer, questioning, “Where is the prosecution lawyer? He is not even present in the courtroom.” The judge also noted that there was no report submitted regarding the appearance of the former Chairman of PTI before the court.

Due to the prosecution lawyer’s absence, the proceedings could not proceed, leading the judge to allow Bushra Bibi to leave. Furthermore, the judge extended the bail for both Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi until January 16.

WHAT IS THE FAKE RECEIPT CASE?

Former PTI chairman and his wife Bushra Bibi were booked in a fraud case registered at Islamabad’s Kohsar Police station for making “fake receipts” in selling state gifts.

The case was registered under the sections of fake receipt, and cheating against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman, Bushra Bibi, Shahzad Akbar, Zulfi Bukhari and Farah Gogi.

According to the FIR, the accused presented fake receipts for buying and selling Toshakhana gifts and fraudulently used his forged signature for the alleged deal.

The complainant, who is a local watch dealer, has claimed that the investigation proved that the accused had prepared fake receipts on his name on a fake letterhead of his shop—that was used to sell Toshakhana gifts.
