Four NAB teams interrogate Imran for nine hours at Adiala Jail

IHC allows PTI leaders

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan underwent extensive questioning by four National Accountability Bureau (NAB) teams at Adiala jail on Sunday.

The inquiry focused on the alleged involvement of Khan in the 190 million pounds National Crime Agency (NCA) UK and Al-Qadir University Trust cases.

Sources revealed that the interrogation, lasting over nine hours, involved separate sessions with four different NAB teams. The teams, comprised of assistant directors and members of the Combined Investigation Team, delved into various documents and posed a series of inquiries to the former prime minister.

The initial team, led by an assistant director of NAB Rawalpindi and a member of the Combined Investigation Team, conducted a two-and-a-half-hour interrogation. Subsequently, a two-member team addressed questions related to the 190 million pound and Al-Qadir University Trust cases.

Imran Khan is scheduled to make appearances in different Islamabad courts on November 28 and 30 for different cases. Judge Abual Hasnat Muhammad Zulqarnain, presiding over the Official Secrets Act special court, has summoned Khan for a hearing on November 28 in the cipher case. Additionally, the appeal against Khan’s conviction in the Toshakhana criminal case is slated for a hearing on November 30 before an Islamabad High Court (IHC) bench.

Despite the IHC declaring his jail trial null and void, doubts linger over Khan’s presence in the Islamabad courts for an open trial on November 28 and 30. The 71-year-old leader has been incarcerated since August 5 following a three-year conviction in the Toshakhana case. Although the IHC suspended his sentence on August 29, a trial court subsequently ordered his re-arrest in the cipher case, leading to a resumption of the trial within the confines of the jail.

Imran Khan is expected to appear at the Federal Judicial Complex on Tuesday for the cipher case hearing. Authorities are set to finalise a security plan for him, with a meeting involving the police, administration, and relevant departments scheduled for Monday.

Sources indicate that classified information is being gathered by the Special Branch of the police and other departments to aid in planning security for the former premier. Peshawar Road is the preferred route for Khan’s transportation from jail to the Judicial Complex, and security measures, including partial sealing of the Red Zone and deployment of police and paramilitary forces, are expected to be implemented to ensure a smooth legal proceeding.
