ISLAMABAD (APP): Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaarul Haq Kakar emphasized on Tuesday that despite numerous challenges, comprehensive arrangements have been put in place to ensure the peaceful and smooth conduct of elections across the country on polling day.

He made these remarks during a meeting with a delegation from the Commonwealth Observer Group (COG), led by former President of Nigeria, Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, who paid a courtesy visit to him, as stated by the PM Office media wing in a press release.

The meeting served as a part of the COG’s engagement with various stakeholders in preparation for the upcoming general elections scheduled for February 8, 2024.

Prime Minister Kakar extended a warm welcome to the COG delegation and underscored Pakistan’s commitment as a member state of the Commonwealth by inviting independent international observers to monitor the electoral process.

He also emphasized that the caretaker government has diligently fulfilled its responsibilities in managing the day-to-day affairs of the state and fostering a conducive atmosphere in the lead-up to the elections.

Prime Minister Kakar further stressed that it is now the responsibility of the people of Pakistan to exercise their democratic right to vote. In response, Goodluck Ebele Jonathan expressed gratitude to the caretaker prime minister and conveyed the best wishes of the Secretary-General of the Commonwealth, Patricia Scotland.

He affirmed that the COG delegation would be actively visiting various polling stations across the country to observe and assess the election proceedings.
