Woman dies one week after becoming world’s oldest skydiver

CHICAGO: Dorothy Hoffner, the 104-year-old American woman who recently made headlines for becoming the world’s oldest skydiver, peacefully passed away in her sleep at her residence in Chicago on Monday.

Hoffner, a celebrated centenarian, achieved international recognition for her remarkable skydiving feat, taking a courageous leap from an aircraft at Skydive Chicago Airport on October 1.

This daring act shattered the Guinness World Record for the oldest tandem parachute jump, a record previously held by a 103-year-old Swedish woman.

Remarkably, despite her advanced age, Hoffner described her skydiving experience as serene and enjoyable, saying, “There was nothing scary about it. It was nice and peaceful,” as she shared her post-dive thoughts.

Tragically, Ms. Hoffner was discovered deceased at the Brookdale Lake View senior living community by the staff, as confirmed by her friend Joe Conant.

It is believed that she passed away on Sunday night, leaving behind a legacy of bravery and adventure.

A spokesperson for Skydive Chicago and the US Parachute Association expressed their deep honour that Hoffner’s final skydive marked the culmination of her exciting and well-lived life.

The cause of her passing remains undetermined, as confirmed by a nurse who had known Ms. Hoffner for approximately five years.
