Yasir Arafat appointed High Performance Coach of Pakistan’s T20 Team

LAHORE: Former Pakistani Test Cricketer, Yasir Arafat, has been appointed as the new high performance coach for the Pakistan’s T20 team.

Pakistan is set to play five matches against New Zealand in January 2024.

The cricketer will replace the Australian coach Simon Helmut and assume responsibility after the Australian series end.

Yasir Arafat was appointed on the recommendation of the national team’s director, Muhammad Hafeez. Previously, he has served as a bowling coach for the U19 team against South Africa.

The former test cricketer is currently based in London and will take over duties once he arrives in Islamabad. He will later travel with the Pakistani T20 team to Auckland, New Zealand on January 3, 2024.

He will be announced as training camp commander in Lahore on December 28 and will be given additional responsibility of batting coach for the Pakistani T20 team.

Pakistan’s squad for ICC U19 World Cup 2024 announced

The future coach has shown impressive performance in bowling within county cricket. The likes of Sussex, Surrey, Somerset and Hampshire have sought out his bowling abilities. Australian Perth Scorchers also utilised his skills in 2013. Most importantly, he was part of the Pakistani squad that won the T20 World Cup in 2009.

After Zaka Ashraf approves his appointment, Yasir Arafat’s appointment will be officially announced.

The series with New Zealand is set to commence from January 12, 2024. PCB earlier announced a 17-player squad for the New Zealand tour. The upcoming series is seen as critical to prepare Pakistan for the 2024 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.
