Kohli rates Babar as world’s top batter

NEW DELHI: India’s superstar batter Virat Kohli has hailed Babar Azam as one of the best batters in the world across formats.

In an interview with Indian channel, Kohli recalled his first meeting with Babar Azam during the 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup in Manchester, after the Pakistan – India match. According to Kohli, he and Babar had a conversation about the game, and since then, both have mutual respect and admiration for each other.

Acknowledging Pakistan captain’s consistent performances, 34-year old former Indian captain said, “I always enjoy watching him play.”

Both Babar Azam and Virat Kohli are regarded as two of the finest batters in modern cricket, and their performances on the field often fuel debate among fans across both sides of the border regarding who is the better player.

In recent years, Babar has risen to the top of the cricket world, particularly in the ODI format. This year he became the fastest player to reach 5,000 runs in One Day Internationals (ODIs), surpassing Hashim Amla and Viv Richards.

Babar is currently the top-ranked ODI batter with 886 points. Kohli is ranked ninth with 705 points.
The Pakistan captain is also ranked third in T20I cricket and fourth in Test cricket, making him the only top five players in all formats – Test, ODI, and T20I.
