CAS Global Squash championship begins in Islamabad today

ISLAMABAD: The Serena Hotels International Squash Tournament, presented by the Chief of Air Staff (CAS), is all set to kick off today at the Mushaf Squash Complex, promising an array of international players in competition.

Amir Nawaz, Secretary of the Pakistan Squash Federation (PSF), revealed during a press briefing at Serena Hotel that the tournament will feature participants from Malaysia, Egypt, and Spain, adding an international flavor to the event alongside Pakistani contenders.

The men’s championship carries a lucrative prize of $1,805 for the winner and $1,140 for the runner-up, while the women’s competition offers a prize purse of $902 for the champion and $570 for the second-place finisher. Excitement is building as the championship finals are scheduled to take place on December 4.

Leading the pack in the men’s category is Egypt’s Ibrahim Elkabbani, globally ranked at 62nd. Following closely is Pakistan’s Asim Khan, securing the 71st spot. The fourth seed, 19-year-old sensation Noor Zaman, holds the 121st global rank, while the experienced Farhan Zaman claims the 10th seed.

Emphasising the federation’s dedication to elevating squash’s status both nationally and internationally, Amir underscored Pakistan’s capability to organize and host top-tier squash tournaments effectively. He voiced confidence in the country’s ability to showcase its organisational prowess, stating, “The federation aims to demonstrate to the world our proficiency in hosting major squash tournaments and welcoming world-class players in an efficient manner.”
