ISLAMABAD: Former opposition leader of the National Assembly Raja Riaz has officially joined the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) after previously expressing his determination to remain unaffiliated with any political party.
Speaking on the Hum News programme Pakistan Tonight with Syed Sammar Abbas, Raja Riaz declared that he no longer holds the position of opposition leader and expressed gratitude to Nawaz Sharif and Shehbaz Sharif for their trust and support.
He stated: “I am embarking on my political journey within the PML-N. I will contribute to the strengthening of the PML-N. I will come to Pakistan before Nawaz Sharif from London.”
He mentioned that he had received numerous offers from various political parties but ultimately decided to align himself with the PML-N. When the host inquired about the specific parties that had approached him, he opted to maintain discretion, expressing his respect for all parties and his reluctance to disclose their names.
During the interview, host Abbas inquired from Raja Riaz about the Pakistan Democratic Movement’s (PDM) 15 months in power, which witnessed several governance challenges. He asked if Riaz was content with the party’s performance during that time.
Raja Riaz responded affirmatively, stating that he has consistently assumed the role of a constructive opposition figure. He emphasised that his approach has always prioritised the nation’s interests over political maneuvering, and he refrained from engaging in political games.
He furthere revealed that during his meeting with PML-N Supremo, Nawaz Sharif conveyed deep concerns about the issue of inflation in Pakistan. He conveyed that Nawaz Sharif was deeply distressed by the country’s challenging economic situation and is determined to return to actively serve and improve the well-being of the citizens.
