PTI’s Shah Farman will not contest elections

PESHAWAR: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader and former governor of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Shah Farman has made a significant announcement stating that he and his family members will not be contesting the upcoming general elections, in an effort to discourage dynastic politics.

Farman clarified that his decision was not an exit from the PTI party but rather an opportunity for party workers to participate in elections, as they had made significant sacrifices. He released a video message addressing certain allegations made against him, without delving into the specifics.

While not explicitly naming individuals, he accused some PTI leaders of engaging in substantial corruption during the party’s tenure, including buying properties in Europe and money laundering. Farman expressed confidence that time would unveil the truth regarding these allegations.

In his video message, he emphasized that politics was not a family profession or a source of income for him, his son, and his brother. By refraining from contesting elections, he said he aims to set an example for other party leaders and create opportunities for dedicated workers to enter the political arena.

Farman highlighted his commitment to transparency, noting that during his time as governor, he was the only one in the last 75 years to return allocated “secret funds.” He questioned the practice of some PTI leaders securing election tickets for their family members, stating that such actions contradicted the sacrifices made by party workers.

Calling for the PTI leadership to provide more chances to dedicated workers to contest elections and serve the public, he stressed the importance of promoting a more inclusive and democratic political landscape.
