Visitation rights: LHC summons additional home secretary in Elahi Case

LAHORE: Lahore High Court (LHC) Monday summoned additional home secretary Punjab on plea of former Punjab chief minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi’s wife, complaining that the family was not being allowed to meet the incarcerated PTI President.

A single-bench comprising Justice Raheel Kamran heard the case.

Addressing the government lawyer, Justice Kamran said imprisonment is not punishment and authorities cannot deprive the inmate of basic facilities.

Stating rules allowing meeting with family members, Justice Kamran inquired “Is there a threat to the government if Elahi meets his spouse?”

Further hearing into the case has been adjourned till tomorrow.
