Islamabad -While expressing his country’s commitment to upholding the principles of democratic governance, US ambassador to Pakistan Donald Blome emphasized that Pakistani nation should determine their future ruler.
US Ambassador Donald Blome engaged in a crucial meeting with Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Sikander Sultan Raja on Thursday.
The focus of the discussion was the unwavering commitment of the United States to upholding the principles of democratic governance. The ambassador’s visit underscored the vital importance of conducting free and fair elections in strict accordance with Pakistan’s established laws and Constitution.
A spokesperson from the US embassy issued a statement highlighting the key points of the meeting. Ambassador Blome reiterated that the responsibility of selecting the nation’s prospective leaders exclusively rests with the people of Pakistan.
Interim govt has no intention to delay elections, says Sarfraz Bugti
He emphasized that the United States remains dedicated to fostering and strengthening the bilateral relationship between the two nations, regardless of the electoral outcome.
The context of Ambassador Blome’s remarks is a backdrop of uncertainty encompassing the timeline of the forthcoming general elections.
The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has opted to initiate the delimitation process before the imminent polls. Anticipated to span a duration of up to four months, this comprehensive undertaking casts doubts on the feasibility of holding elections within the current year.
The diplomatic exchange assumes heightened significance in the midst of evolving domestic political dynamics. Ambassador Blome’s affirmation of American commitment to the democratic processes of Pakistan amplifies the nation’s stance on allowing its citizens to chart the course of their governance.
