Two hours left in ECP’s nomination deadline; February 8 polls await

WEB DESK: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has reached the culmination of the nomination paper submission process for the upcoming February 8 general election, with the deadline set to expire at 4:30 pm today.

Originally scheduled to conclude on Friday at 4:30 pm, the filing of nomination papers for national and provincial assembly seats began on December 20. Subsequently, the ECP extended the deadline to today, providing candidates with additional time to complete the nomination process.

In the current phase, spanning from December 25 to December 30, the returning officers (ROs) will meticulously scrutinize the submitted nomination papers, adhering to the schedule outlined by the ECP.

Following this, from January 3 onwards, candidates will have the opportunity to file appeals against the decisions made by the returning officers. The appellate tribunal is then tasked with resolving these appeals by January 10.

The revised list of candidates is slated for publication on January 11, paving the way for the final phase of the pre-election process. Candidates will have until January 12 to withdraw their candidacy voluntarily.

Political parties can anticipate the allocation of election symbols on January 13, setting the stage for the general elections scheduled for February 8.
