LAHORE: The provincial education department of Punjab has announced that all schools in the region are scheduled to resume regular operations on February 1, 2024.
This decision marks the conclusion of the winter session, which will officially end on January 31.
In compliance with government regulations, both public and private schools will operate from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on weekdays and from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm on Fridays until January 31.
The interim government of Punjab had previously modified the winter schedule for all state-run and private schools on January 8, with the aim of addressing specific challenges posed by the season.
Starting February 1, schools will revert to their standard operating hours. The official advisory issued by the education department on January 2, 2024, emphasised the resumption of normal school times.
It further directed the heads and principals of both public and private schools, along with all Chief Executive Officers (DEA) in Punjab, to ensure strict compliance with the provided instructions.
Additionally, the recent three-day period has witnessed a significant reduction in cold temperatures, leading to a decrease in the prevalence of fog in the smog-hit city of Lahore.
This positive trend has extended to other cities, including Gujranwala, Sialkot, and Narowal, where the dense fog had previously hindered travel during both night and early morning hours.
The improved visibility is expected to alleviate commuting challenges that arose due to the adverse weather conditions.
