Indian tennis player Sania Mirza’s father has confirmed the divorce of her daughter from the former captain of the Pakistan team Shoaib Malik.

His statement came soon after Shoaib Malik announced on a Saturday that he had contracted a second marriage with well-known Pakistani actor Sana Javed in Karachi, following his divorce from Sania Mirza.

The cricketer who had tied the knot with Indian tennis star Sania Mirza 13 years ago in April 2010, announced his new marriage by sharing a photo on social media with his new wife.

He captioned it with the words “And We created you in pairs.”

According to Sania’s father, Imran Mirza, Sania took “khula,” from Shoaib Malik which is the right of a Muslim woman to unilaterally divorce her husband.

Shoaib and Sania tied the knot in April 2010 in Shoaib’s hometown, Hyderabad. They resided in Dubai, later welcoming their son, Izhaan Mirza Malik, in 2018. Recent reports suggest the couple has parted ways but remains committed to co-parenting Izhaan. In addition to their personal journey, they co-hosted The Mirza Malik Show on Spotify last year.

Shoaib, who debuted in international cricket in 1999, captained the Pakistan cricket team across various formats, concluding his career in 2021. Sania, boasting 43 WTA doubles titles and a singles trophy in her 20-year tennis career, announced her retirement last year.
