Raja Riaz to start second round of consultations for caretaker PM

ISLAMABAD: Opposition Leader in the National Assembly, Raja Riaz, has announced that he will initiate a second phase of consultations from Wednesday to finalise names for the caretaker prime minister.
After the removal of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf government last year, Raja Riaz, who was elected as the opposition leader, has already conducted a round of consultations on this matter.
The second phase is scheduled to commence on August 2, and Raja Riaz is expected to propose three name for the crucial slot.
Riaz stated that besides his own party, the Jamaat-e-Islami and the Grand Democratic Alliance will also participate in the discussions.
Moreover, he said they were endeavouring to include prominent economists, politicians, and accomplished technocrats in the list of potential names for the caretaker premier.

Furthermore, Raja Riaz will also hold consultations with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in a meeting scheduled for either August 2 or August 3 to discuss potential candidates.
In the event of the National Assembly’s dissolution before completing its term on August 12, elections will be held within the next 90 days.
If the National Assembly completes its tenure, the Election Commission of Pakistan will be obligated to hold polls within the next 60 days.
As per the law, the prime minister and the opposition leader are required to engage in consultations for the formation of a caretaker setup.
