PPP to back PML-N for PM slot but opts out of coalition govt

Bilawal

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has said that his party will not be part of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz government in the center, but will vote for its candidate for prime minister.

He said this after the two-day meeting of the PPP Central Executive Committee (CEC), which discussed the country’s political situation and the election results.

Speaking at a press conference after the CEC meeting, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari said that we have to support Pakistan; we have to stabilize Pakistan.

He said that “the PPP does not have a mandate to form a government at the centre, we did not get a mandate. I am not a candidate for prime minister.”

He said that “we are not in the position to form a government at the center single-handedly. The PML-N had invited us to join the government. The PML-N is the only party that invited us to join the government at the centre.”

Bilawal said that “we have decided that we are not in a position to become part of the federal government. We will not take ministries in the federal government, but we will vote for the candidate of PML-N for the prime minister’s office.”

He said that during the two-day session, the CEC discussed the country’s political situation and stability in detail.

“The fact is that we do not have a majority in the federation to form a government. That’s why I am out of the race for the prime minister. The Pakistan People’s Party did not get a mandate. I am not a candidate for the prime minister.”

He said that the PTI has announced that it will not dialogue with the Pakistan People’s Party. So I tell them to form a government at the centre.

“Our principled decision is to stand by Pakistan. Our slogan will be Pakistan Khappay,” he said

“The country is facing political, terrorist and climate change challenges. We talked about the public economic agreement. To improve the country. We will support whoever is the candidate for the prime minister on issue-to-issue basis so that political stability returns to the country. In this situation, we have decided to form a committee, which will talk to the political parties about the political situation,” he said.

He said that the PPP had been part of the PML-N government for 18 months, but the party had complaints and the CEC members said that their work did not happen in 18 months.

He said that the PPP wanted the new government to be formed soon so that the country could get out of the crisis. He said that the PPP did not want the country to go towards another election.

He said that the people participated in the election and did not want more political instability. He said that the CEC members expressed many objections regarding the PML-N and accepted the results of the elections with protest.

He said that it was his wish that Asif Zardari become the president of the country, as there was a fire spread in the country and the country was burning. He said that he wished Asif Zardari would become the president and extinguish this fire.

In response to a question, Bilawal said that the PPP wanted the parliament and the prime minister to complete their term, and if there was another election, no political party would accept the results.

He further said that the PPP would field candidates for the slots of the Senate chairman, the president and the National Assembly speaker. He said that he wished Asif Zardari to participate in the election for the post of president.
