Police arrest five for ‘attacking’ SCO unit in Gilgit
GILGIT: Gilgit police on Sunday arrested five people for allegedly attacking Special Communication Organization (SCO) unit, a subsidiary of Pakistan Army responsible for providing internet and mobile connection in Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), during the recently held long march against withdrawal of wheat subsidy.
According to a first information report (FIR) registered against some unknown “miscreants” on January 27, civil society of Danyore was holding a sit-in at Alamdar Chowk Danyore in favour of their demands when some “unknown miscreants among them chanted slogans against Pakistan Army and SCO”.
The FIR said the “miscreants pelted stones on the main gate of SCO unit SB63c and tried to enter into the unit and damaged government property”.
The FIR, registered under Anti-Terrorism Act, added that the “the miscreants also launched aerial firing.
Acting on the FIR, the Danyore police arrested Hussain Akbar, Muhammad Ibrahim, Maqsood Sawan, Minhas, Gulbaz Golden on Sunday.
According to Danyore Police Station SHO, they have arrested the individuals on their suspected involvement and a joint investigation team is investigating the matter.
