LAHORE: Prominent leaders of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) gathered at the Model Town Central Secretariat for the twelfth meeting of the party’s parliamentary board. Former prime minister Nawaz Sharif, accompanied by PML-N president Shehbaz Sharif and senior vice-president Maryam Nawaz presided over the crucial session.

Among the key figures present were Ishaq Dar, Rana Sanaullah, and Ahsan Iqbal, along with other central and provincial office bearers.

The meeting’s agenda focused on the selection of suitable candidates from Sindh and Karachi, with more than 135 applications under consideration.

The parliamentary board has been actively reviewing candidates since December 2, covering various regions, including Sargodha Division, Rawalpindi, Hazara, Malakand Division, Balochistan Province, Dera Ghazi Khan, and several other districts.

In a media interaction, PML-N leader Mian Javed Latif emphasised the importance of a level playing field and discussed the challenges faced during the 16-month national government. Latif also highlighted Nawaz Sharif’s leadership role and the party’s commitment to transparent elections.

Furthermore, he praised the government’s achievements in preventing default and thwarting alleged conspiracies to prolong military rule. He mentioned the readiness of regional parties to align with Nawaz Sharif’s vision.

Speaking on the occasion, Nawaz Sharif shared the difficulties he has had to face. He said, “I was a Prime Minister in the morning, a hijacker in the evening”.

As the Parliamentary Board continues its candidate selection process, the PML-N leaders expressed confidence in Nawaz Sharif’s leadership as the sole Prime Ministerial candidate within the party.
