PESHAWAR: The Peshawar High Court (PHC) is set to take up a petition on Monday filed by political candidates alleging changes in the election results.

The case will be heard by Justice Shakeel Ahmed and Justice Arshad Ali.

The petition was filed by eight independent candidates namely Mehmood Jan, Taimoor Jhagra, Kamran Bangash, Arbab Asim, Arbab Jehandad, Ali Zaman, and Malik Hashmat.

In the petition, the independent candidates allege discrepancies in form-45, claiming the forms declared them the winner. However, they were replaced with another document during their absence.

Form-45 is a document used during elections within a constituency. It includes important information about a polling station such as its identification number, which constituency it belongs to, total number of registered voters, total votes cast, and a detailed list showing how many votes each candidate received.

The petitioners are requesting the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to withhold announcing the winner from their respective constituencies until results are compiled based on form-45.

Meanwhile, the ECP summoned an important meeting on general election 2024 results on Sunday (tomorrow).

According to sources, the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Sikandar Sultan Raja will head the meeting, where he will be briefed on the election and reasons for delayed announcement in some polling stations.

The meeting will also take up various complaints filed with the election body related to the general election.

The ECP has released unofficial results of 252 NA seats out of 265.
