May 9 riots: ATC orders release of Haleem Adil Sheikh

KARACHI: The Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC), Karachi has ordered the release of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) member and former opposition leader in the Sindh Assembly, Haleem Adil Sheikh.

The ATC court rejected Karachi police’s plea for physical remand. Sheikh was arrested yesterday by the Karachi police, after he had already obtained protective bail from the Peshawar High Court (PHC).

Now, Sheikh has filed a contempt of court application against the Karachi Police in Peshawar High Court PHC, for his arrest.

Sheikh said that he got a protective bail from the Peshawar High Court. He further said that the Sindh High Court too had barred the authorities from arresting him in any case.

Sheikh, who has been nominated in the May 9 riots case, had submitted an application to the Sindh High Court (SHC) challenging his non-bailable arrest warrants issued by an anti-terrorism court in Hyderabad in the May 9 mayhem case.
