ISLAMABAD: Khawar Farid Maneka, the ex-husband of Bushra Bibi, disclosed details about the dissolution of their marriage and her subsequent relationship with Imran Khan, a prominent political figure in Pakistan. According to Maneka, during the sit-ins orchestrated by Imran Khan in Islamabad, Bushra Bibi’s sister, Maryam Watto, played a pivotal role in arranging meetings between her sister and Khan. Maneka expressed his dismay, stating, “Despite 28 years of a happy marriage, Imran, under the guise of Peri Muridi, brought destruction to our home.”
Maneka revealed that Bushra disregarded his warnings and his mother’s concerns about Khan’s suitability. The couple began to communicate secretly over the phone at night, facilitated by Farah Gogi, who provided a confidential phone number at Khan’s request.
He further noted that while he had a residence in Bani Gala, Bushra frequently visited Khan’s house without his knowledge. This secrecy culminated in Bushra leaving their matrimonial home six months before their divorce and moving to her house in Pakpattan. Despite Maneka’s efforts to reconcile, Bushra remained resolute in her decision to separate.
FARAH GOGI’S INVOLVEMENT
The situation escalated when Farah Gogi, acting on Bushra’s behalf, messaged Maneka, requesting a divorce. Maneka confronted Bushra about her desire for divorce, but she remained silent, leading him to send the divorce certificate through Gogi on November 14, 2017.
Plea hearing against Khawar Maneka’s physical remand deferred
In a further revelation, Khawar Maneka shared that Gogi later contacted him, requesting a change in the divorce date. The reason given was Imran Khan’s impending ascension to the prime minister’s office, and Maneka was advised to maintain silence on the matter.
Finally, Maneka disclosed that he officially divorced Bushra Bibi on November 14, 2017. Approximately a month and a half later, she married Imran Khan. He lamented that the media reports were the first to inform him and their children, Mehru Maneka and Ibrahim Maneka, about Bushra’s remarriage.
