Three killed in Khairpur road accident

KHAIRPUR: Three people including one woman and two children were killed while over 25 others were injured in a collision between two passenger coaches on the National Highway in Khairpur on Sunday.

In the tragic incident a woman along with two children was amongst the three killed.

The injured were taken to Civil Hospital Khairpur where doctors said that the condition of four of them was critical.

Police said the accident occurred when one of the coaches heading from Karachi to Punjab collided with the one coming from the opposite direction.

They explained that the incident took place due to poor visibility on account of rain and fog in the area.

Meanwhile in a separate accident near Qazi Ahmed on National highway on Sunday an overspeeding passenger van overturned injuring more than 20 people including women and children.

The passenger coach was on bound to Karachi from Kohat

Two of the injured are in critical condition according to rescue sources.

The major causes of these accidents include reckless driving, poor road conditions, and inadequate traffic management. Roads are crowded, drivers are often aggressive and poorly trained, and many vehicles, particularly large trucks and buses, are badly maintained.
