KARACHI: An investigation officer (IO) disclosed that more than 45 women have allegedly fallen victim to a school principal in Karachi who stands accused of rape and blackmail.
The principal, employed at a private school in Karachi’s Gulshan-e-Hadeed area, was apprehended by the police a day ago following multiple reports of rape and blackmail.
It has been reported that the principal utilized closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage to coerce and blackmail his victims. Law enforcement authorities have recovered 25 short video clips on his cellphone, all related to the alleged crimes.
The scandal came to light after an explicit video involving the principal and a female teacher circulated on the internet.
In response to the situation, the principal’s office has been sealed, and forensic examinations are set to be conducted. The accused, identified as Irfan Ghafoor Memon, has been remanded to jail custody for seven days.
Memon informed the police that he rented the school in December for a monthly fee of Rs100,000. He also disclosed that there are approximately 10 female teachers, five male teachers, and around 250 students enrolled in the school.
The case has been registered at the Steel Town police station on the state’s complaint, with the First Information Report (FIR) including charges related to sexual harassment, threats, and blackmail, according to the IO. It has been alleged that the principal lured female teachers with the promise of employment and then subjected them to sexual abuse.
“The accused resorted to video recording to blackmail his victims,” the IO stated.
Authorities involved in the investigation have secured the DVR footage from the CCTV cameras as evidence, and they are planning to examine the principal’s mobile phone.
Additionally, the IO mentioned that a victim has contacted them, and her statement will be recorded. The case is currently under investigation by a high-level committee.
The officer also indicated that information about additional suspects who possess DVR recordings and videos has surfaced, with assurances that the police will apprehend two suspects by tonight.
