ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad district administration has issued a notification banning all New Year celebrations in the capital city in solidarity with the oppressed Palestinians amid the ongoing Israel-Hamas war.

According to the notification, no fireworks, musical concerts, parties or gatherings will be allowed on the eve of New Year in any public or private place. The ban will also apply to housing societies and shopping malls, where no permission will be granted for any event.

The district administration has also cancelled all the NOCs issued for any event till January 1, 2024, and directed the police and the magistrates to ensure the implementation of the ban.

Pakistani PM bans New Year celebrations in solidarity with Palestinians

The notification came after Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaarul Haq Kakar announced on Thursday that the government of Pakistan had decided not to celebrate the New Year in view of the shocking situation of Palestine.

In a brief address to the nation, Kakar said that Pakistan stands with the Palestinian people in their struggle for freedom and dignity, and condemns the Israeli aggression and atrocities.

He urged the international community to take immediate action to stop the bloodshed and protect the rights of the Palestinians. He also appealed to the Pakistani people to observe the New Year as a day of solidarity with the Palestinians, and pray for their safety and liberation
