ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad Capital Police announced on Sunday that human rights lawyer Imaan Zainab Mazari-Hazir has been arrested “for investigation.”

A copy of the First Information Report (FIR) was filed at Tarnool police station against Imaan Mazari, Chairman of the Pashtun Tahafuz Movement Manzoor Pashteen, Ali Wazir, and others accused. The FIR includes sections 148, 195, 440, 149, 1188, 343, 353, and 186 of the law.

The text of the FIR states that during a protest, the participants attempted to march towards Islamabad, leading to clashes with the police and other law enforcement agencies. The protesters reportedly blocked the GT road by strategically parking containers and vehicles, causing an obstruction.

In addition, the FIR alleges that the participants issued threats and engaged in assaulting law enforcement officers during the protest.

Earlier, the news of the arrests was shared on X (formerly Twitter): “Islamabad Capital Police has arrested Ali Wazir and Iman Mazari. Both suspects were wanted for investigation. All action will be taken in accordance with the law.”

The statement emphasised that the information provided by the public relations department of the Capital Police should be considered accurate. It also said no one else is authorised to issue statements on behalf of a police station.

This comes after an early Sunday post on Imaan’s X account. She seemed to have hurriedly written, “unknown persons breaking down my home cameras banging gate jumped over.”

In the wee hours of Sunday, her mother and PTI leader Shireen Mazari also took to X. She claimed that plainclothes personnel took away her daughter.
