ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) issued an order on Monday, directing authorities to avoid arresting PTI leaders Shehryar Afridi and Shandana Gulzar within the boundaries of Islamabad.
On August 16, the high court allowed PTI leaders Shehryar Afridi and Shandana Gulzar to return home as it considered their pleas against their extended detentions under the Maintenance of Public Order (MPO) ordinance. The detentions were related to their involvement in the May 9 violence.
The court on Monday halted the apprehension of both leaders within Islamabad and extended the suspension of the MPO order until September 6. The State Council requested a postponement of the case for the day’s proceedings.
PTI Chief cleared of murder charges
Justice Babar Sattar stated that his jurisdiction is limited to Islamabad and he wouldn’t be able to intervene in matters occurring outside of it. He also clarified that the chief commissioner and IG would not be held accountable.
Irfan Nawaz Memon, the DC of Islamabad, informed the court that due to orders from various courts, specific details were not currently accessible.
He assured that the required report would be submitted shortly.
Consequently, the court deferred the indictment proceedings of DC Islamabad and SS operations until September 7.
