Gym, swimming pool: KP govt approves Rs600m for bureaucrats
PESHAWAR: At a time when the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province is grappling with a severe financial crisis, the caretaker government has approved a Rs600 million project for the construction of an exclusive gym, squash court and swimming pool for bureaucrats and their families.
Documents exclusively available with HUM News English show that on November 8, 2022, the Departmental Development Working Party (DDWP) approved a Rs200 million project for Infrastructure and Beautification of Civil Officers Mess, the residential area of senior bureaucrats in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
In the provincial budget for 2023-24, the government allocated Rs11.667 million for the same project.
Sources said that the government started reviewing the PC 1 of the Civil Officers Mess Infrastructure and Beautification Project from September 2023 and held consultations to increase the project cost from Rs200 million to Rs600 million.
According to the sources, a special meeting of the Provincial Development Working Party (PDWP), chaired by the additional chief secretary of planning and development, approved the revised PC 1 of the Civil Officers Mess Infrastructure and Beautification Project worth Rs600 million.
The revised PC 1 includes the construction of an exclusive gymnasium, swimming pool and squash court in the civil officers’ mess for government officers and their families.
HUM News English tried to contact Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister of Information Barrister Firoz Jamal, for comments on the project amidst the province’s weak financial position, but he could not be contacted.
