Finance Division releases Rs17 billion to ECP for general election


ECP unveils plan for general election

ISLAMABAD: The Finance Division has released Rs17 billion to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) for conducting the general election.

As per the Finance Division, it has released Rs17.4 billion to the ECP in addition to Rs10 billion released in July 2023 for conducting the general election in the country.

Stock market stable above 62,000 points

This brings the total released amount to Rs27.4 billion for holding general elections. Finance Division remains committed to provision of funds as and when required by the ECP.

The release of funds comes one day after caretaker information minister Murtaza Solangi shared a post on X, formerly Twitter, assuring public that there’s no financial crisis hindering the ECP’s preparations for the elections.

He wrote that all budgeted funds will be released promptly based on the ECP’s needs and clarified that the federal cabinet had approved Rs 42 billion for the ECP. Out of these Rs 10 billion have already been disbursed.
