SWABI: In a startling incident in the Swabi district of Peshawar, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has launched an urgent inquiry into the snatching of postal ballot papers, raising concerns about the integrity of the electoral process. The incident has prompted the ECP to request a comprehensive report from the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government.

The ECP, in response to the alarming development, has dispatched official letters to the Chief Secretary of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and the Inspector General of Police (IGP), demanding an immediate and detailed investigation into the matter.

Two individuals were apprehended in the Gadoon area of Swabi, with postal ballot papers in their possession. The recovered papers are now in the custody of local authorities, awaiting further examination.

In light of these events, the Election Commission has taken a proactive stance by registering a First Information Report (FIR) to ensure a thorough investigation into the snatching of the ballot papers. The FIR signifies the gravity with which the commission views any attempts to compromise the electoral process.

The Chief Secretary and the IGP have been urged to expedite the submission of a comprehensive report on the incident. The ECP emphasised the need for swift action to maintain public trust in the electoral system and to prevent any potential impact on the upcoming elections.
