ECP takes notice of Dr Achakzai’s removal from DG Health position

ISLAMABAD: While taking notice of removal of Dr Abdul Baseer Khan Achakzai from Director General (DG) Health slot, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has directed Secretary Ministry of National Health Services Regulation and Coordination (NHSR&C) to furnish a comprehensive report on this matter.

According to documents available to HUM News English, the competent authority has desired to furnish a comprehensive report regarding transfer of Achakzai from NHSR&C and placing him at the disposal of admin pool without prior approval of the commission which is viilation of section 230(2) (f) of the Election Act 2017 and guidelines issued by ECP on 15 /08/2023.

Sources said that his removal by the ministry was intimated while he was on foreign tour along with the Federal health minister.

Ministry of National Health had given additional charge of DG health to Muhammad Ahmad Qazi who is overseeing matters for a period of three months or till posting of regular incumbent.

Sources also said that the bone of contention between Secretary and the minister is the appointment of Dr Razia fatima. Reportedly the federal health minister was not happy over her appoinment as National Coordinator in the project Strengthening common managment unit for TB, HIV / AIDS and Malaria.

The Heath ministry had appointed Dr Razia as National Coordinator for two years.

On the other hand, sources said that the high ups of the health ministry also had reservations on the absorption of Achakzai at the federal level since he was an employee of the government of Balochistan.
