ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Monday issued a non-bailable arrest warrant of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf chief, following his failure to appear before the commission.
The ECP has instructed Islamabad police to arrest Imran Khan and produce him before the ECP on July 25 (tomorrow).
The ECP issued a warrant for Imran’s arrest today, stating that he was “required in the contempt of the commission’s proceedings initiated in terms of Section 10 of the Elections Act, 2017”.
Inspector General Islamabad police have called an emergency meeting after receiving the arrest warrants. Police sources say a special team will be formed to execute the arrest, led by the police authorities.
Furthermore, in case of any unforeseen circumstances, a separate team will be constituted for the arrest of the party workers.
Earlier today, The Supreme Court (SC) gave Khan relief in the case related to the murder of senior lawyer Abdul Razzaq Shar in Quetta, restricting the police from arresting the former prime minister till August 9.
