Alvi signs five bills into law

ISLAMABAD: President Arif Alvi has accorded his assent to five bills earlier passed by parliament, the President house said in a press release on Friday.

The bills included Gas (Theft Control and Recovery) (Amendment) bill, 2023, The Press Council of Pakistan (Amendment) Bill, 2023, Pakistan International Airline Corporation (Conversion) (Amendment) Bill, 2023, The Trade Marks (Amendment) Bill, 2023 and The Trade Dispute Resolution Bill, 2023.

The Gas (Theft Control and Recovery) (Amendment) bill, 2023 is intended to streamline the administration and oversight of gas theft control and recovery measures.

The amendment in the The Press Council of Pakistan (Amendment) Bill, 2023, substitutes the term “government” with the phrase “secretary of the division to which business of the Council stands allocated” in section 8, in sub-section (1), in clause (xiii) of the Press Council of Pakistan Ordinance, 2002 (XCVII of 2002).

PIAC (Conversion) Amendment Bill, 2023 envisages addressing financial woes of the national flag carrier through attracting foreign direct investment (FDI).

The Trade Marks (Amendment) Bill, 2023 would enable local brands for international registration of trademarks and electronic validity/payment of their documents.

The Trade Dispute Resolution Bill, 2023 is aimed at creating a comprehensive framework for efficient and effective resolution of disputes related to the export and import of goods and services, including those involving E-commerce.

The president has given approval of the bills under Article 75 of the Constitution of Pakistan.
