SOUTH KOREA: South Korean girl band Blackpink achieved historic milestone as their popular 2018 song Ddu-du Ddu-du’s video surpassed 2.1 billion views on YouTube, making it the first K-pop video to reach this feat.
The trendsetter song, known for its infectious dance hook, has continued to break records even five years after its release.
Within just 24 hours of its release, the song performed by the band members Jisoo, Jennie, Rosé, and Lisa, achieved an impressive feat by garnering 36.2 million views on YouTube. It became the first K-pop video to achieve such a high number of views within that timeframe, ranking second globally only to Taylor Swift’s Look What You Made Me Do.
The achievement earned Blackpink a gold certification from the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) in 2019.
Blackpink, who embarked on their musical journey in 2016, has now completed seven successful years in the music industry. Their immense popularity is evident from their massive fan following, with over 90.3 million subscribers, making them the most-subscribed artist on YouTube worldwide.
