Solangi removes Marriyum Aurangzeb, others from WhatsApp group
ISLAMABAD: Caretaker Information and Broadcasting Minister Murtaza Solangi has deleted the names of former information minister Marriyum Aurangzeb and other Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) leaders from an official WhatsApp group run by the ministry’s Directorate of Electronic Media and Publication Cell (DEMP).
According to sources, Solangi visited the DEMP Cell recently and found out that the cell was still sharing news and reports with the PML-N leaders even after the end of their government’s tenure.
According to sources, he expressed his displeasure and removed the mobile numbers of Marriyum Aurangzeb and other PML-N leaders from the WhatsApp group. He also made himself the admin of the group.
The DEMP Cell is responsible for monitoring the electronic, print and digital media and generating reports on a daily basis.
Sources said that the cell also briefed the minister on the Central Monitoring Unit, a project that aims to automate the media monitoring process. However, Solangi was not satisfied with the performance of the project.
The contractor of the project has supplied 30 per cent of the equipment to the cell, however, the tasks were being done there manually, the sources said. The information ministry has recently transferred the project director as well.
HUM News English tried to contact Solangi for his comment on the matter, but he did not respond till the filing of this story.
