Qatar court gives capital punishment to eight Indian navy officials

WEB DESK: A Qatar court has given capital punishment to eight former Indian navy personnel for allegedly spying for Israel, according to Indian media.

The individuals who have been sentenced include Captain Navtej Singh Gill, Captain Birendra Kumar Verma, Captain Saurabh Vasisht, Commander Amit Nagpal, Commander Purnendu Tiwari, Commander Sugunakar Pakala, Commander Sanjeev Gupta, and Sailor Rajesh.

The Indian Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) expressed profound ‘shock’ in response to the sentence and said is awaiting detailed judgment.

All eight former naval personnel were employed by Al Dahra Global Technologies and Consultancy Services, a private company owned by a former Oman Air Force officer. This firm was responsible for offering training and various services to Qatar’s armed forces and security agencies.
