ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) spokesperson Raoof Hassan on Friday said that his party has won the majority of seats in the National Assembly and the provincial assemblies of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), and announced that his party will form the governments in the Centre and the two provinces.

In a press conference in Islamabad, Hassan said that the PTI faced many hurdles and challenges in the election campaign, but managed to secure a landslide victory in the polls.

He accused the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) of delaying and manipulating the results, and said that the PTI will challenge the outcome of the constituencies where it suspects rigging and tampering.

He also said that the PTI chairman, who has not been serving a jail term, has refused to make any deal with any one.

He expressed confidence that the PTI will get the support of the smaller parties and the independent candidates. He warned that the former presidents Asif Ali Zardari and Nawaz Sharif will try to lure the PTI candidates with money and power, but asserted that no PTI candidate will betray the party or the people.

He said that the PTI is in a strong position to form the government and has initiated the consultation process with its allies and potential partners.

Currently, 91 independent candidates, mostly PTI-backed, have clinched National Assembly seats followed by 62 by the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz and 50 by the Pakistan People’s Party.

Similarly, in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, PTI-backed candidates have won on 85 seats followed by seven by JUI-F and five by PML-N.

In Punjab, 130 independent candidates, mostly PTI-backed, have clinched victories followed by 129 by the PML-N.
