President appoints Justice Qazi Faez Isa as next CJP

ISLAMABAD: President Dr Arif Alvi on Wendesday approved the appointment of Justice Qazi Faez Isa as the next Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP), said a notification issued by the President’s House.
Justice Qazi Faez Isa will replace current Chief Justice of Pakistan Umar Ata Bandial, who is retiring on September 16. Justice Faez Isa will assume office on September 17.

President Alvi exercised his authority under Article 175(a)(3) of the Constitution, which stipulates that the president shall appoint the most senior judge of the Supreme Court as the chief justice.
The official swearing-in ceremony of Justice Faez Isa will be hed at the President’s House on September 17.
Born on October 26, 1959 in Quetta, Justice Fae Isa is the son of late Qazi Mohammad Isa, who was a prominent figure of the Pakistan Movement, while his grandfather, Qazi Jalaluddin, served as the prime minister of the Khanate of Kalat during pre-partition India.
Justice Faez Isa has been serving in the Supreme Court since September 5, 2014. Prior to his elevation to the Suprme Court, Justice Faez Isa served as the chief justice of the Balochistan High Court from 2009 to 2014.
