DERA ISMAIL KHAN: The reported attack on Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) Emir Maulana Fazlur Rehman’s convoy has been denied by Regional Police Officer (RPO) Nasir Mehmood.
Contradicting the JUI-F spokesperson’s claim of an assault on Maulana Fazl ur Rehman’s convoy near Yarik interchange in Dera Ismail Khan, RPO Nasir Mehmood clarified that a police check post was targeted at the Yarik Interchange.
He confirmed that the police responded promptly, and the attackers managed to escape.
Additionally, Fazl’s brother affirmed that the JUI-F chief was at home during the incident, stating that the convoy stopped for refuelling near Yarik interchange.
The incident follows Fazl’s repeated security concerns about the stability in parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where he has questioned the feasibility of holding elections.
Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) spokeperson claimed on Sunday that Emir Maulana Fazlur Rehman came under attack after his convoy was fired upon from multiple sides in Dera Ismail Khan’s Yarik interchange.
The spokesperson added that the JUI-F chief was travelling through DI Khan when his convoy came under attack near the toll plaza.
