PICA Act enforced on passport and immigration offices
ISLAMABAD: The federal government has enforced the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PICA) Act on the sensitive assets of passport and immigration offices across the country, according to reliable sources.
The move is aimed at preventing unauthorized persons from accessing or sharing information from the data warehouses and production halls of the passport offices, where e-passports and passport data entry are done.
The sources said that anyone who violates the PICA Act will face a punishment of one year or more, as approved by the Ministry of Interior and the Cabinet.
The security of the passport offices has also been enhanced by deploying Frontier Corps (FC) personnel and hiring a private company named Security Dragon, the sources added.
The sources revealed that the government took these measures after it was discovered that more than 12,000 foreigners had obtained Pakistani passports illegally.
