Seven killed in Lodhran

QUETTA:  A Levies force man was shot dead by unidentified gunmen at a bus station in Quetta on Sunday, Levies sources said.

Abdul Bari Kakar, who was returning home after his duty, was attacked by the assailants at the Abdullah Mezai bus station and died on the spot, the sources said.

The gunmen fled the scene and no one has claimed responsibility for the killing. An investigation is under way to determine the motive behind the murder and identity the attackers.

Balochistan and its capital Quetta has been plagued by a separatist insurgency, sectarian violence and militant attacks for decades.

The province also borders Afghanistan and Iran, and is a key transit route for smugglers, drug traffickers and militants.

The security situation in Balochistan has improved slightly in recent years due to increased military operations and development projects, but the province still remains volatile and unstable.
