KARACHI: A police officer from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa was taken into custody by the Superhighway police on charges of illegal arms trafficking.

SSP East Irfan Bahadur said that the arrested police official was found in possession of two handguns, narcotics, and police identification card.

He said that it was discovered that the suspect had maintained an active social media presence and had been supplying firearms across the country for over a year.

The police officer said that the arrested cop confessed to distributing Kalashnikovs, repeaters, and semi-automatic pistols in Ghotki, Shahdadpur, Hyderabad, Larkana, Sahiwal, Lahore, and Balochistan.

The accomplice of the arrested official facilitated the delivery of weapons, he said.

“The suspect would transport the firearms from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in his police vehicle. When stopped at checkpoints, he would display his police card without undergoing inspection, often escaping further scrutiny,” SSP Bahadur said.

The suspect allegedly collected all payments for the arms through easypaisa transactions. Further investigation into the matter is under way.
